Welcome to the official website of the Hoso Canary Breeders Alliance.
The H.C.B.A. was formed to promote the keeping , breeding & exhibiting of the Japanese Hoso posture canary in a sound , ethical and healthy environment.
At 11cm (41/3") the Hoso is the smallest of the exhibition posture canaries and is believed to have been originated in the 1920's , in Japan, by Mr. M. M. Nakamura.
Once it reached continental Europe in the 1960's, it soon became established as an exhibition canary and a standard was accepted by C.O.M. in 1974.
Here in the U.K. the Hoso is attracting a growing band of admirerers and more and more are being seen on the show bench's at avicultural exhibitions .
Being a free breeding variety that is surprisingly virile given its diminutive size , the Japanese Hoso is equally suited to established breeders and newcomers alike and , in its show 'pose' of a 'half moon' shape, is pleasing to the eye. Among the U.K. breeders that have already fallen for the charm of the Hoso it was felt that the time was right to form the Alliance to oversee its continued developement and to safeguard the future of this variety on our shores.
Breeding and exhibiting Hoso canaries is a vastly rewarding hobby that is enjoyed by people of all ages and from all walks of life and the Alliance is here to assist those wishing to take up the hobby or to advise established breeders looking for a new challenge.
The H.C.B.A. will embark on a programme of promotion that will endevour to see the Japanese Hoso recieve full exhibition status by holding its own annual show as well as supporting local and national exhibitions, a Judges panel will be developed to ensure that the Hoso is judged in accordence with the C.O.M satandard . Affiliation to the The International Ornithological Association , will allow H.C.B.A. members to exhibit their birds at prestigious shows such as 'The World Show '
